Theo Selles, M.Sc.

Hello. I am dedicated to helping organizations and families become stronger through living values. I earned my Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Guelph in 1993, and I am a Registered Family Therapist. I grew up in a family business and learned much of what I know about working with integrity from my father.

I’m the former Director of Community Development and Family Services for Epilepsy Toronto. It was during that time that I became passionate about advocating for people with disabilities. In 2009 I had the great honour of being the Master of Ceremonies for Toronto’s International Day of People with Disabilities.

My life and education has been eclectic, to say the least! In 2010 I went to Humber College to obtain a Certificate in Radio Broadcasting. As a result of that, you can often hear me talking with Bill Kelly and callers on 900AM CHML’s The Bill Kelly Show in Hamilton. I’ve found the time to write a self-help parody book, Selfishness Matters, loosely based on Dr. Phil’s Self Matters, among other books. In it I skewer self-important self-help gurus and call into question a growing culture of “Self” and self-absorption. In 1991, I hitchhiked over 20,000 miles for the better part of the year around North America, to see what people were really like outside of psychology text books.
I’m thrilled to be part of the Centre. I love its emphasis on holistic health. I like to see the best in people and I believe in your capacity for healing. And I can’t end this intro without saying how much I love my son, Zak.

Jocelyne Hyland RHN, RhA

I learned about and developed a passion for naturals and alternative medicine at a very young age. After receiving acclamations from the toughest clients of all (friends and family!) it was clear that my life’s work would be helping others via alternative medicine. I am an honours graduate from the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition, providing me with the designation of Registered Holistic Nutritionist (RHN). In addition, I attended the Institute of Natural Health Technologies, in Oakville Ontario, where I received her Registered Holistic Allergist (RhA) designation. I primarily practice Bioenergetic Intolerance Elimination; a modality to test and permanently clear virtually all symptoms of allergy and intolerance. I always welcome new clients who are in search for a new lease on life.

Sarah Penney, ND

Born and raised in the Hamilton area, I completed my undergraduate degree at McMasterUniversity with an Honors Bachelor of Science. My studies focused on Biology as a major and Medical Anthropology as a minor, the combination of which ignited my interested in alternative medicine. My passion for natural therapies, holistic medicine, and most importantly health, made naturopathic medicine an instinctive fit for me.

I then completed 4 years of postgraduate medical studies at the accredited CanadianCollege of Naturopathic Medicine (CCNM) in Toronto. During my year-long internship, I had the opportunity to work under a variety of experienced naturopathic doctors and was exposed to several clinical settings including the Robert Schad Naturopathic Clinic, the Queen West Community Health Center, and Hamilton’s own Naturopathic Perspectives. At each of these locations I gained experience helping patients achieve their health goals by providing naturopathic services enhancing their physical and emotional well-being. I am committed to continuing my education, and am presently completing my Masters in Human Health and Nutraceutical Sciences at the University of Guelph.

I am currently a board certified Naturopathic Doctor, registered with both the Ontario Association of Naturopathic Doctors (OAND) and the Canadian Association of Naturopathic Doctors (CAND). I work to integrate research-based natural medical knowledge with mainstream medicine to provide the most comprehensive care possible. This is achieved through the use of clinical nutritional therapies, acupuncture and Asian medicine, botanical medicine, lifestyle counseling and homeopathy. I welcome patients at any stage in their journey toward well-being and have special interest in women's health, fertility, pain management and chronic disease.

Dr. Maggie Davies, DC

I graduated from the University of Guelph with a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Kinetics in 2005. While completing my undergraduate degree I competed on the Varsity Women’s Basketball team & focused my studies on health, wellness & nutrition.

After undergrad, I attained a Doctor of Chiropractic degree from the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in 2009. I hold a certificate in Contemporary Acupuncture from McMaster University & am a certified Graston Practitioner. I completed a yearlong internship through CMCC where I worked in a variety of clinical settings. These ranged from the Muki Baum Adults’ Centre, where treatment was geared towards improving functionality, posture & the overall health of clients with special needs (i.e. Down's syndrome, Schizophrenia, Autism), to the Anishnawbe Health Centre which centered on the needs of the Native community promoting a healthy physical/mental/emotional/spiritual well-being, to a specialized Sports pod that was focused primarily on functional movements, rehabilitation & optimization of athletes & the general population.

During my final year as an intern, another devastating injury would occur on the basketball court - A Ruptured Achilles Tendon - an injury that would challenge my determination & spirit while trying to complete my education but in the end, teach invaluable lessons about perseverance & rehabilitation.

I am a Diversified chiropractor & I utilize a variety of techniques such as electro-acupuncture, Kinesio Taping (KT), muscle/fascia release & manipulation/mobilization (just to name a few) in order to decrease pain & inflammation & correct biomechanical dysfunction. I offer an incredibly unique perspective, unlike that of other doctors, as I have personal experience & a multitude of knowledge regarding therapeutic rehabilitation & exercise prescription. I am committed to continually updating my knowledge as well as gaining new skills in my field & I strive to provide excellent care to suit my clients’ individual needs. My upbeat attitude & vibrant outlook allow me to encourage & motivate my clients in an empathetic & supportive manner.

C. Joanne Watson, Dip. Phyto, RH, Registered Clinical Herbalist

I first became interested in herbal medicine when, in the 1990's, I had developed allergies to dyes and food additives. I was given a gift of a book that listed botanical remedies for various ailments. This inspired me to seek out educational opportunities so I could learn more about natural remedies.

I went on to home study the Chartered Herbalist course from Dominion Herbal College in British Colombia and after finishing it in 2002, I realized I wanted to have a broader education in the field. I found Mohawk College in Hamilton, Ontario was offering a Diploma in Phytotherapy (Herbal Medicine). As a result, I started school in late 2002.

I finished in 2010 after passing 47 courses and received more than 300 hours in clinic training through other herbalists as well as the Institute of Traditional Medicine in Toronto, Ontario. The Mohawk program is unfortunately no longer offered but was a very in depth program of more than 2,500 hours of study. Subjects included were anatomy, physiology, botany, pathology, materia medica, physical exam technique, differential diagnosis, biochemistry and phytochemistry. I was taught by a medical doctor on staff at McMaster University, Naturopathic Doctors, Herbalists and a plant biologist, to mention a few. I am a Professional Member of the Ontario Herbalists Association.

Drew Nathan, CNP

I am a Certified Holistic Nutritionist and Iridologist. I am dedicated to helping people restore their health or prevent health imbalances through the use of natural foods, herbs, supplements, and other healing modalities. Since the elemental composition of the human body is made up of nutrients, it is my belief that primarily through nutrition that vibrant, long-lasting health can be achieved. Every individual is biochemically different and thus the whole individual must be considered to reach optimal health.

Iridology is the science of assessing health through the irises of the eyes. Every organ, gland, and tissue in the body is "mapped out" in the eyes which provides incredible detail into the inner workings of the human body. Through an iridology assessment, health imbalances, inherent strengths or weaknesses, toxicity conditions, stress levels, inflammation, and more can be seen. Most importantly, iridology provides an invaluable framework for using holistic nutrition to correct evident health problems.

I look forward to seeing you and guiding you on your own health journey.

I am a Registered Usui Level 2 Reiki Practitioner with the Canadian Reiki Association. I received my Usui Reiki Level 1 training while pregnant with my daughter. During my maternity leave I completed the necessary practical hours to become a Registered Practitioner with the Canadian Reiki Association and recently I completed my Level 2 Usui Reiki training.
I had read an article during one of my visits to the doctors that Reiki could be effective during child birth to help control and lessen any labour pains, which it did. Since this is the reason I became interested in learning more about practicing Reiki I have a particular interest in treating pre-natal women although I truly believe that anyone can benefit from Reiki.
It's important to remember that, whatever is troubling us, we didn't get this way
overnight and we won't recover overnight either. Reiki is not any more magical than any other modality or conventional medicine. Healing takes commitment and it takes time...one moment at a time.
